This site is run by Decisive Marketing, a California corporation, of 25005 Blue Ravine Rd, Ste 110 #182, Folsom, CA 95630. This page says what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to make us delete it.

Children, first, because it is the part that matters

This service is sold to and used by adults. Children never log in, never use Alexis AI and never see a screen as part of the program. We do not knowingly collect anything directly from a child.

We do ask the parent for two things about their child, because the program does not work without them:

  • The child’s age or age range, so we send material that fits. This is on the free download forms and at sign-up.
  • The child’s first name, after purchase, so emails and Alexis AI can use it. First name only. Never a surname, never a birth date, never an address.

Videos and photographs of your child

Members can upload videos or photographs of their child playing, for milestones and celebrations. Because these show a child, we treat them as the most sensitive thing on this site.

  • Only a parent or legal guardian may upload. By uploading, you confirm you are one and that you have the right to share that recording.
  • Uploads are stored with the hosting and video services we use to run the site, and the people who run Play Based Piano can view them.
  • We use them only to do the thing the feature says it does, such as showing your child’s milestone back to you inside the members’ area.
  • We will not publish, broadcast or use a child’s video or photograph in any marketing, advertising, social media post, public web page or promotional material of any kind, unless you have given us separate written permission for that specific recording. Uploading is never that permission. We will always ask, and you are free to say no.
  • You can ask us to delete any upload at any time, for any reason or none, and we will remove it from our systems within 30 days.
  • We do not sell these recordings, and we do not use them to train artificial intelligence.

We never sell anything about a child. We never use a child’s name or age for advertising or targeting.

What we collect from you

  • Your email address, when you ask for a free download or join the list.
  • Your name and billing details, when you buy. Card numbers go straight to Stripe. We never see or store them.
  • Your account and what you have accessed in the members’ area.
  • Your messages to Alexis AI. See below, this one deserves its own section.
  • Emails you send us, and whether you opened or clicked ours.
  • Ordinary site data: IP address, browser, device, approximate location, and which pages you visited. See Analytics below.

Alexis AI conversations

Alexis AI is a chat inside the members’ area. Everything you type into it is stored, and we read it. We read it weekly, to find the questions the program has not answered well and to write better answers.

Your messages are sent to our AI provider, currently Anthropic (which makes Claude) and/or OpenAI, so it can generate the reply. We use their business and API services, which as a rule do not train their models on customer data. [CONFIRM THIS AGAINST YOUR ACTUAL ACCOUNT TYPE AND AGREEMENT BEFORE PUBLISHING. It is a reassuring sentence and it needs to be true.]

So: write to it like you are writing to a person who will read it later, because one will. Do not type anything about your child’s health or anything else private that you would not want stored.

Who else sees your data

We do not sell your data to anyone, ever. We share only what these services need to work:

  • Stripe, to take payments.
  • Kit (formerly ConvertKit), to send email.
  • Anthropic and/or OpenAI, to power Alexis AI.
  • Our web hosting provider, which stores the site and its database.
  • Our video hosting provider, where member uploads and the course videos are stored.

Email

Join a list and you get two emails a week, roughly: a story and a game. Members also get account email, which you cannot opt out of while you are a member. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link and it works immediately.

Analytics and cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in, to remember your cart, and to understand how the site is used.

Analytics. We use third-party analytics and measurement services to see how people find and use this site: which pages get visited, how long people stay, which links get clicked, roughly where in the world visitors are, and what device and browser they used. These services set cookies or similar identifiers and receive your IP address. We use what they tell us to improve the site and to work out which of our free material is actually useful.

We do not use analytics to build advertising profiles of you, and we never combine analytics data with your child’s name or age.

The specific services we use may change over time. You can block most of this using your browser’s privacy settings, a tracking blocker, or your device’s “do not track” option, and the site will still work normally. Blocking cookies entirely will stop you staying logged in.

If we ever start running paid advertising, advertising cookies would be a different thing from the above and we would update this page and ask for consent where required.

How long we keep things

  • Your account and its data, while you are a member and for 12 months after.
  • Payment records, for as long as the law requires, usually 7 years.
  • Alexis AI conversations, for 12 months.
  • Videos you upload, until you ask us to delete them or your account closes.

Your rights

Email support@playbasedpiano.com and we will, within 30 days: tell you what we hold about you and your child, correct anything wrong, delete it, or send you a copy. You do not need a reason and we will not make it difficult.

If you live in California. California law gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to ask for a copy, to ask us to delete it, to correct it, and not to be treated differently for asking. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. Use the email address above and we will respond within 45 days.

If you live in the EU or the UK. You have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability, and you can complain to your data protection authority. We handle your data to perform our contract with you, to meet legal obligations, and for our legitimate interest in running and improving a small business. Changes

If we change anything that matters, we will email members rather than quietly updating the date at the top.
